Black Student Union hosts spoken word

Poetry and music filled the East Lounge as students and faculty gathered together to attend the Spoken Word lounge in the activities center east lounge.

The event was put together by members of the Black Student Union. The event showcased musicians, singers and poets who came out to preform and entertain the crowd with original works and renditions of popular songs.

“Its a great event because you know it brings together all kinds of races of people and I think people need poetry people need you know something you know something real a truthful in the world,” Isaiah Getaw, 19, communication major said.

The spoken word lounge brought a piece of African-American culture to EC and allowed students to express themselves through music and poetry.

“I think it’s just a good thing to have so students can express themselves and be able to show other people and other students what they do in their spare time and encourage them to maybe show their talents,” Nikita Kinshasa, 28, business major said.

The next black history month event will be the tribute to professor Maria Brown on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the East dinning room.
