Tables of food, drinks and a long line of hungry people filled the East Dining Hall as a “Taste of Soul” wrapped up the month-long events EC has promoted to showcase the history of African-American culture.
All events were organized by the Black History Month Committee at EC.
“The purpose is to bring some cultural diversity to campus. To give people a ‘taste’ if you will of its cultural heritage and African-American heritage is a part of that,” Maria Brown, professor of social science, said.
The event was to show the African-American culture through food while attracting students and staff to bring awareness to black inventors.
Dawn Reid, director of EOPs, said the African-American culture is based off traditions passed down from generation through families, cooking, food and the arts.
The event also showcased a homage to the African-American inventors who changed the culture of America through inventions.
“It was a good idea to get people to learn something,” Brandon Franklin, 19, communications, said.
