A hot water line erupted in the second floor ceiling in the Humanities Building early this morning that caused flooding on the first and second floor offices.
Classrooms were found intact however the first and second floor faculty offices will be under construction for two to three weeks due to the flooding, Barbara Jaffe, Associate Dean of Humanities, said.
“When I went up into the office around 7:30 in the morning, I noticed that everything on the floor was soaked,” Cynthia Silverman, Reading Professor, said. “This is a new building so this shouldn’t be happening.”
The Writer Center is closed today and the restrooms on the first and second floors are also closed until further notice.
“While there is no imminent danger due to the excessive water, there will be heavy machinery and a multitude of works coming in and out of the building,” Francisco Arce, Vice President of Academic Affairs, said. “Thus, for your safety, the decision was made to close off the faculty offices.”
These offices will remain closed while they undergo a complete remodel that will include new carpeting and paint; there will also be a test regarding the air quality.
If any faculty members must enter any of the closed offices, that professor or instructor must go to the division office for assistance and have a cadet escort.
