Director Paul King, brings Paddington the bear (voiced by Ben Whishaw) to life in his charming new film “Paddington.” The movie is not only great for kids but for adults as well — it has something to offer for the whole family.
After tragedy strikes in Darkest Peru, Paddington the bear makes his way to London in search of a new home. While in a London train station, he meets the Brown family who decide to take him in until he can find a permanent home, despite Mr. Brown’s (Hugh Bonneville) reluctance.
Paddington’s adventure unfolds in a way that makes you laugh, but also pulls at your heart strings — high flying adventure and mishaps galore. The titular bear definitely keeps your attention in the most delightful and adorable way.
While on his quest for a permanent home, with assistance from his biggest supporter, Mrs. Brown (Sally Hawkins), Paddington runs into trouble when a taxidermist (Nicole Kidman) is out to get him.
The visual effects used to make Paddington come to life must not go unnoticed. The film’s visual effects and live action shots were done so well that it gives the 2012 film “Ted” a run for its money. The actors deserve praise as well, because the movie wouldn’t be the same without their great performances.
What makes “Paddington” truly relatable is the overwhelming theme that differences can bring people together and that kindness can go along way. “Paddington” resonates with people of all ages, because it is about acceptance — accepting someone with all their faults and loving them for who they are. Besides, that is what family is all about.
Although “Paddington” was a good film it was very predictable. The story line is similar to that of classic Disney films in the sense that something bad happens which then forces the main character to go on the ever so common journey of finding a happily ever after. But that “original” idea is to be expected in a kid-friendly film.
Overall, “Paddington” will warm your heart, leave you laughing and remind you to leave a little bit of kindness wherever you go.
“Paddington” is now playing in all theaters. It’s 95 minutes long and rated PG for mild action and rude humor.
