Ahmet Tatlilioglu, 20, wanted to see space and become an astronaut when he was a child.

How long have you been attending EC?

I have been attending EC for three years. I like to take it a little slow, I guess. Actually, I’m almost done, but I have an engineering major, so I have to take a lot of classes.

What got you interested in supplemental instructing and when did you start?

I heard about it and my wife, Abby. I was offered the job last semester. I wanted to do it too because I was doing something similar to this in my country. And I like to teach and help students out. Even before this, I would help my friends out, tutoring them at math.

What do you do in S.I.?

I am a supplemental instruction coach. I have two classes that I coach, so I have five sessions a week.

Do you plan on teaching?

Actually, I was thinking about getting a minor in math and I might teach in the future, I’m not sure. I mean, I would like to be an engineer, but if that doesn’t work out, I’m seriously thinking about being a teacher because it’s something I like other than playing with computers.

Why did you choose a major in engineering?

Actually, I am a computer engineer. I love working on computers and I want to become a software engineer.

What is your favorite subject at school?

History and math. I like to learn about the ancient cultures, about what happened in the past and how it impacted us. And math has always been my strongest subject. I love to deal with numbers. It’s like solving puzzles to me; it’s fun. It’s a good brain exercise.

What’s your worse subject?

I struggle with physics. Understanding the concepts takes a lot of studying and time, which I don’t have.

What did you want to be when you were young?

When I was little, I wanted to become an astronaut. I wanted to see space.

What are your goals?

I would like to finish school, get a degree and a career being an engineer. I would like to invent stuff, work on new projects. I like working on programs, like math programs.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to watch movies when I’m bored. I like Quentin Tarantino and his style. I try to follow foreign news, other than American news, I like to see from a different perspective what’s going on in the world.

Where are you from originally?

I am from Turkey. I moved here about three years ago. I wanted to come here to study, and then I met Abby, my wife. We’ve been married for four months now.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I’ll probably be done with my school and have a career. Other than that, I’ll have some kids.
