We’ve all seen them, millionaire “matchmakers” who try to take their clients and completely change their looks and personality, all for one measly date. Matchmakers like these don’t really help their clients find love, but rather find summer flings and one night stands. Thankfully for us regular people, there is Siggy Flicker, a matchmaker based in New York who teaches her clients about dating etiquette and how to become more approachable.
“Why Am I Still Single” starts off with two clients, one male and one female, learning more about them and their personal lives. Once the clients have been introduced, Flicker sets each of them up on a “test date” with each other. During the date, Flicker, along with her assistants, watch secretly from afar while the date is underway. They then assess each client’s dating mishaps and make each client aware of their social blunders.
After the test date, Flicker talks one on one with each client and helps them face their problems or correct their behavior. Flicker goes through practice rounds at a bar or a park with her clients and helps them engage in casual small-talk with others around them before sending them out into the real world without her. Once Flicker feels that her clients have mastered her dating techniques, she sets each of them up with a new date. However, before their new date, each client receives a make-over from the twin stylists, Jenn and Jaime.
“Why Am I Still Single” is much different from your average matchmaker TV show. Flicker doesn’t take cheap jabs at clients or shout and argue with them. Flicker tells it like it is, but gives constructive criticism and offers her clients good advice that they can walk away with and use anywhere. She is genuinely interested in helping her clients find meaningful relationships. She wants her clients to find love and be happy with themselves whether they are single or not.
Between her hilarious assistants and dopey singles, Flicker’s show is sure to be a hit.
“Why Am I Still Single” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on Vh1.
