The Choreography Showcase directed by Pam Santelman will start June 3 at 1p.m. and 7p.m. There will be several styles of dance performed at the Campus Theatre. Tap, hip-hop, salsa, vale, and contemporary are a few styles that will be performed there. There is a $10 admission fee for each showing.
Diana Aburto, dance major, likes anything with high energy in it, like Latin rhythm & jazz. The dance she has choreographed for the show is called “Irresistible” She wants to show how the Latina women can some times be irresistible to men’s eye especially from another culture. She will also dance in the piece called “My Brother’s Keeper” and Flip Mode”. “Dance has been my passion since I was a little girl and I have come to the conclusion that it is the only place I can be myself,” Aburto said.
Christopher Bunyi, Theatre major, started dancing tap in high school, the summer of 2003. He picked up hip-hop in 2006. Bunyi has helped choreograph the piece “Flip Mode,” he will also be dancing in “Seranade and Ninjas.” “I’ve never had a passion as strong as dance, I’m not going to major in it. I don’t know what it is, but I really enjoy it,” Bunyi said.
Khadeejah Sharif, dance major, choreographed the piece “No Lights, Camera, or Action”. This is a contemporary piece, She will also be dancing in “Time After Time, Anything You Can Do, and Dancing with the Crazies”.
Pam Santelman, dance instructor, helps each choreographer fine tune their dance routine, She has been a dance instructor for ten years. Santelman started dancing in college and dance professionally for fourteen years after she left college. “Because I graduated from UCLA it’s a very modern dance background, so I do the modern dance, the choreography, the improvisation type classes rather than jazz, hip-hop or tap. I don’t teach those” Santelman said.
