A Not-So-Easy Win

So far it is a dream start for the El Camino Men’s Volleyball team who are undefeated in the season and well on their way to obtaining their Championship.

On Friday night, the Warriors visited Trade Tech expecting an easy victory but instead were surprised by an opponent who would not give them an easy ride.

Despite extending their undefeated streak, the Warriors who are now 6-0 in the season, played a Trade Tech College who were determined to beat an undefeated giant.

“Right from the beginning TradeTech started things off with a mindset to knock us off the top spot,” sophomore Errol Basconcillo said. ” However we manage to pull through and were able to get that win.”

The first set was won 25-22; the second set was won 25-19; the third set was won 25-17, ending the game 3-0 and giving the Warriors their sixth win in the season.

A game where the aftermath could have been a different story where an underdog team would come out victorious against a superior team, was prevented by the Warriors who saw a hard-fighting team and quickly reacted to prevent a lose.

“We walked into the game expecting an outstanding win without working hard for it,” freshmen Kosta Tzavaras said. “Although I believe that we are a better team than them, I think that they played harder and had a purpose.”

The Warriors continue to grow better as a team, and are always looking to improve in every game.

“The team did a lot of things correct, our passing was much better,” sophomore Brandon Hiehle said.

In a game where players were required to step up, Nehemiah Iosia who had 17 kills, and Roy Powell who had 9 kills, did not fail to help their team.

“(Nehemiah Iosia) He had a terrific game and really carried us through that match,” sophomore Roy Powell said.

“The things we did correctly was we just kept doing what needed to be done to win,” Powell added. “And one thing we could work on to get better would be to play more consistent.”

The Warriors will have to wait until the 21st of March to face Los Angeles Pierce College, where it will be a much more complicated game, and where the Warriors will look not to underestimate their rivals.
