The Warriors battled against top competitors in track and field at the CSU Fullerton “Benny Brown” Invitational on Saturday, March 10.

The Warriors faced familiar faces as they competed in and won some of their events.  Some competitors included UC Irvine, UCLA, Orange Coast, Cal State Fullerton and Mt.  San Antonio.

Michelle Woodruff won the high jump at 5-6 which put her in third on the EC Top performer list.  Woodruff is also on the current state leading mark. Joining Woodruff in the state leading mark is Rukayah Bent-Mikail who had the winning jump of 38-5 ½ in the invitational sections.

Bent-Mikail who is the  defending state TJ Champion teamed with Ronisha Vallery and placed second and third overall in a State Leading mark of 18-10 ½ .

“I just want to do good for myself and I like to beat my previous records,” Bent-Makail said.

The Warriors’ freshmen had no problem keeping up with their peers. Brittany Householder ran the 800-meter with a time of 2:25 16 and Bralion Brown ran the 200-meter and had a time 22.33.

“Running and doing well shows the outcome of all your hard work,” Climonte Blackman, mid-distance runner, said.

On the men’s side Anthony Lewis ran a solid 15:12.92 for fourth in his  5,000-meter invitational race which was his first  ever attempt at this distance with his partner Alex Villaescusa  who ran a personal best 15:30.48.

Victor Martin threw the shot put with a personal best of 50-3/4 placing fourth overall in the invitational section and the top junior college performer. Martin is currently ranked fourth in the state and second in Southern California. “There is nothing like seeing your entire hard work payoff.  I tell myself let’s go and get a good throw martin says before he throws the shot put,” Martin said.
