Warriors win; slim chance of making state championship

Things are coming to an end.
While the men’s soccer team hoped its season wouldn’t end until December at the state championships, even the Warriors’ (8-7-4) recent 2-0 win over Long Beach City College was not enough.
“We have about a 20 percent chance of making it,” Daniel Herrera, goalkeeper, said. “We haven’t given up. We want to finish strong.”
The team will look to finish out the season against Pasadena City College today at 3 p.m.
Edgar Lopez and Frank Rodriguez proved to be the difference in the game, with each scoring a goal in the team’s victory.
Long Beach City College went to extremes to try and tie the game but couldn’t as the Warriors shut them out.
“There was a 15-minute period of time where they kept coming,” Herrera said. “About seven corner kicks and two hard shots from close range, which kept me busy blocking shots.”
The men’s soccer team played united and just had fun said Michael Tosatado.
“Since we knew we weren’t going to make it to the playoffs we were just having fun, I guess that’s what helped us,” Tostado said.
For some players, it will be their last season and Edgar Lopez, forward, said he hopes they can finish it on a good note.
“This is my last year and I want to finish strong, with positive results,” Lopez, said. “We are playing more competitively than we did before.”
With the losing streak finally an afterthought, Lopez added that the team can now focus on just having fun.
“We started having more fun and everyone is more united and we’re just enjoying the game now,” he said.
All things, both good and bad, come to an end.
With the slimmest ray of hope, the Warriors need to win their final regular season game to have a chance of extending their season.
“We still have some hope for the playoffs, but we’re not letting it get to our heads,” Herrera said. “We’re just going to out there and have fun during the games.”
