Warriors drop four straight games

As Briana Hunt, guard, was weaving in and out of traffic and trying to get EC back on track scoring 12 of her 14 points in the second half, the team was completely overmatched by Fullerton College.
EC (1-4, 0-2) was pummeled 83-43 by the No. 2 team in the state.
Next stop for the Warriors is at Chula Vista, south of San Diego, to Southwestern College next Friday as they try to salvage this road trip with a win.
“It’s a broken record, right? We have to practice everything,” Steve Shaw, coach, said. “We have to just continue to get better. We need to have a better understanding of what we want to do offensively and defensively. Southwestern is another solid team and we have four days of practice next week. We have to take advantage of those.”
The Warriors were in striking distance in the middle of the first half when they were down 25-20. Then Fullerton College went on a 21-3 run which made the score 46-23 by halftime.
“They (Fullerton College) do things that make it difficult for you to be really organized offensively,” Shaw said. “There’s a reason why they are No. 2 in the state and there’s a reason why they are 7-0. When opportunities presented themselves, they took advantage of it and we could not respond to them.”
As the Warriors did not find much rhythm the whole game, Amanda Young, guard, said that they will just need to work harder and play more as a team.
“This game was just all bad,” Young said, “We weren’t running our set plays and everyone was trying to play individually and not as a team. They were always executing plays and their defense was good but we did not do any of that.”
EC had 34 turnovers all together and Young had nine of them.
Shaw did see some positives from the game although the score was never close since the midpoint of the first half.
“Down the stretch in the second half, we finally got to a point where we were doing things that we wanted to do. That’s what we need to do more consistently,” Shaw said.
After not being able to play in the loss against L.A. Trade Tech College due to a knee injury, Kirsten Hurd, forward, logged 30 minutes and scored eight points to go along with two assists.
“This game was not what I expected it to be,” Hurd said. “I did sink a couple of shots but I have to do more than that and I know that. We hurt ourselves more than anything. We can beat a team like this and we can hang with the best teams in the state and I know that, hands-down.”
