Men’s water polo team beats Santa Monica, 9-6

Now halfway throughout the season, the men’s water polo team still can’t put it all together.

However, the Warriors look to build momentum when they host conference rival Cerritos College Falcons Wednesday at 4 p.m.

“Cerritos is very good, and they are very physical,” coach Corey Stanbury said.

This past Saturday, the Warriors participated in the Saddleback Tournament where they won one game and lost three. The losses came against Palomar College by a score of 17-7; Santa Ana College, 10-3; and Pasadena City College, 12-4.

On the bright spot the Warriors looked impressive defeating the Santa Monica Corsairs, 9-6.

The Corsairs could not contain freshman Brian Kohler, who was on fire scoring eight of the nine goals.

“Everyone goes through times when they score more or score less,” Kohler said.

“We have improved as a team to the point where we beat them by three goals,” he said.

Last Wednesday, the Long Beach Vikings defeated the Warriors, 15-4.

“Long Beach just has an amazing program,” Kohler said. “We are in the same conference, but they’re in a league of their own.”
