When and where do meetings take place?
All meetings begin at 4 p.m. Most of the board meetings take place on the third Monday of each month. Some months we need to move the date, but mostly, we meet, on these Mondays.
How many members are on the board?
There are five members who have been elected by residents who live in the El Camino District. There is also a student representative who provides the student’s perspective on the issues we discuss.
What is the purpose of the board?
The board of trustees decide the policies that govern the college. We represent the interests of the entire community. It functions in the same way as a K-12 school board, a city council or any other local entity.
What is your job as president?
It is my duty to chair and run meetings. I am the official spokesperson for the board and the liaison to the community and media.
How can students get involved?
Students are welcome to attend the meetings and may send me or any board member an e-mail to inform us of concerns. Students should also voice their concerns with their board student representative.
What are your goals as president?
My goal is to maintain and create policies that will support student success. I believe this to be the goal of all my fellow board members.
What happens during meetings?
The meeting agenda is set up by the administration of the college, namely, Dr. Thomas Fallo and his vice presidents. The meetings are then conducted using parliamentary procedures.
Can anyone attend these meetings?
All are welcome to attend. Meetings are open to the public.
How long has the board of trustees been on campus?
The board has been present as long as there has been an El Camino College.
What would you want students to get involved in?
Students should be involved in anything and everything for which they have interest and concerns. The beauty of college is that there is a plethora of opportunities to pursue your interests.
