Renovations throughout campus have forced the relocation of many classrooms to the Manhattan Beach Boulevard Modules, which is compromising the learning environment.
This semester, the social sciences classrooms have all been moved into the modules, increasing the number of classes in them.
Many have described the modules as “boxes,” with their beige, bland walls and instructors are not allowed to post anything on them
The lack of ventilation and windows is among the many complaints students and faculty have about the modules.
This poses a problem because of allergies that an unventilated room creates – one professor has even requested to be moved out of the modules.
While the modifications are in the best interest of the campus and will benefit future students, the needs of current students are being ignored.
EC students have paid their fees to go here and they deserve to have a proper learning environment.
ASO president Josh Casper is concerned that students who have classes in the modules will have a bad experience, which will hurt their educational experience and reflects poorly on the college.
It is important that all students have a good experience so that they may encourage others to attend EC.
Also, if EC is to maintain its high standing within other community colleges, the quality of the classrooms must be considered because amidst the rest of the chaos within the campus, the least EC can offer is appropriate learning conditions inside the classrooms.
If classrooms have to be relocated, the well being of the students and the instructors must be taken into consideration.
Students should not have to worry about the air quality while trying to learn. It is EC’s obligation to provide acceptable accommodations and not cut corners if they must relocate classrooms.
