What is The Film club?
The Film Club is a community of people who are interested in film who come together to network and have fun while undergoing the filmmaking process.
How did you become involved in the club?
I created the club from scratch and headed it. Close friends and colleagues who all shared the vision have helped along the way.
What made you want to start the club?
I am a film major and thought of forming a club because there wasn’t one on campus. I had the “Field of Dreams” mentality of ‘lf you build it, they will come.’ It took about three weeks tops to organize everything and start everything up.
What are some goals this year for your club?
We are a new club, so we are trying to establish ourselves within the campus and community as well. I’m hoping for our club to be able to win a film contest. There is the annual South Bay Film Festival in the spring that I want our club to enter.
Are there any upcoming events?
We have representatives from our club running for homecoming king and queen this November. And we are having movie night here on campus soon.
How do you join?
Anyone is welcome. Just show up with determination and passion for film.
Why should students join your club?
Students who want to succeed in the film industry should especially join because of the opportunities to network. You never know who amongst us is going to be the next Steven Spielberg or Quentin Tarantino so we try to provide tools to assist those in the journey into the film industry.
Where do you meet and what goes on during a meeting?
We meet in the Music Building, Room 1 directly across from the Haag Recital Hall Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30 to 2:30p.m.
How does your club impact our campus?
We hope to provide an avenue for aspiring filmmakers to showcase their work in an environment that is comfortable and supportive.
What is something unique about your club?
Our meetings are pretty relaxed. We do me meet twice a week while most clubs usually just meet once a week. Our meetings run until whenever we feel like it. We are brand new, but we are going strong so far.
