Individuals must realize the advantages that come along with being a citizen of this country which include an opportunity to have our health care system reformed.
Having our health care reformed means, everyone is covered. One country, England, has health care for everyone; they don’t turn anyone away. That is exactly what this country needs; the confidence of being covered and well taken care of.
The health care bills now being considered by congress will provide affordable and quality health care for all and reduce the growth in health care spending. In addition, health care reform will also reduce the number of people without health insurance. The number of people without coverage has increased rapidly over the years.
In the summer, a free health care clinic was set up at the L.A. Forum to assist people with little or no health care insurance. The lines were ridiculous and the wait was long. Some people were turned away and those without a wristband went with hopes to be seen and get treated. Unfortunately, due to such a high number of people, some were left unseen.
The sight was not pretty; it was a desperate cry for help. Doctors who volunteered were making public, televised announcements asking other doctors to help.
There is a need for change. The increase of uninsured people in this country is due to the economy gong bad along with people losing their jobs. People losing their jobs often means losing health care benefits. Once the benefits are lost, a pretty penny is spent on getting back that coverage. With health care being reformed, this will not happen.
The pros of the bill are that everyone can have health care if they want it. This is not just for the elderly. This benefits all who need and want health care.
If health care is not reformed, there will not be anything to look forward to in the future and people will die because insurance is too expensive. The bottom line is people are afraid to be in debt and can’t afford coverage. With the economy going bad, this will benefit those who lost their jobs and benefits. And if you haven’t lost your job, realize that no one is safe. You may have health care today but you may not have it tomorrow.
Many feel worried due to the myths that unfortunately came along with this bill. We must be better informed and not jump into our own little pool of assumptions.
