If everyone shared in the enthusiasm that the faculty in the Transfer Center have, the rates for transfer would be astronomical.
This year marked another increase in the transfer rates for EC and the momentum does not look to be stopping.
With passion unrivaled, the Transfer Center staff’s dreams of having a transfer culture is starting to take form.
This transfer culture includes having discussions and events that make transferring into more of a mainstream thought to the students of the school.
This year’s highlights in statistics include the increase in numbers of acceptances to the UC system, 323 students compared to 272 students last year and the increase in acceptances to the CSU system, 1,161 students compared to 1,158 students last year.
This year brought more awareness to the events and the actual act of transferring with fliers and word of mouth to the students.
With events like the transfer conference and various workshops to teach students on how to write a college essay and how to get into a university, the buzz to transfer has been steadily increasing.
The success to the increase of transfer rates can also be contributed to organizations that were built to help students transfer.
Organizations include: the Honors Transfer Program, Mathematics Engineering Science Acheivement(MESA) and Project Success.
The Honors Transfer Program has nearly doubled its population under Joe Holliday, adviser of the HTP, as well as the staff of the Transfer Center.
The proud statistic that the Honors Program is No. 1 in admission rate to UCLA is displayed in the college’s Web site.
Other accomplishments for the Transfer Center are the new alliances with UC Berkeley with its transfer admission guarantee (TAG) agreements among the other agreements for transfer guarantees with schools like UCLA and UC Irvine.
Rewards for the good reputation that EC is getting include the increased visits from university representatives as well as better relationships to good universities.
All the statistics of improving and high transfer rates can only increase the reputation of EC to both universities and other community colleges.
The increase in population to the transfer events also gives positive reinforcement that the myths that follow transferring, such as how difficult it is or how expensive it is to transfer, are being dispelled.
