Having a college degree does not guarantee that a person will get a great job, make more money or be successful in life.
In fact, a college degree is not even a requirement to be the president of United States.
It may be true that a degree may make it easier for someone to get a higher paying job, but a degree does not guarantee they will get the job that they continued their education for.
In many cases, a graduate’s field of study in college is completely unrelated to the field of work they go into.
Only about 10 percent of America can afford tuition and expenses for Ivy League schools such as Harvard or Yale and yet those are respected learning institutions.
It is incredibly difficult, and most often impossible, for a lower or middle class family to afford tuition to a good college, let alone an Ivy League university.
Competition for employment today in Southern California is incredibly tough and many college graduates do not get employed in their desired field right away.
Instead, graduates take temporary jobs waiting tables or working at Starbucks.
The ironic part of it all is that the college graduate will be brewing coffee for minimum wage and will probably work for a manager who makes twice as much as those who decided not to go to college.
The college graduate does not have a better job, is not making more money and is no more successful than the high school graduate who decided to join the work force right away, even though the graduate has a college degree.
Some of today’s most famous and respected members of the society today have dropped out of college or never attended at all.
After getting rejected from major film schools, Steven Spielberg dropped out of Cal State Long Beach before becoming a famous director.
Sean Puffy Combs, aka Diddy, formerly Puff Daddy, dropped out of city college and went on to create a multimillion dollar company with music and clothing as his base.
American icons like Indiana Jones, Simon Cowell and most unsettlingly, Dr. McDreamy have never even attended college.
Going to college is not about getting perfect grades or being a star athlete. It is about learning a lot about one thing and a little bit about everything else so that the student will graduate as a well-rounded person who is qualified and prepared to follow his or her dreams.
An employer is not hiring a resume or a college diploma. The employer is hiring a person.
It’s not how smart, good looking or qualified a person is that will get you that perfect job.
It’s how hard he or she is willing to work or who he or she knows.
So, one should not waste time in college if he or she is not ready to work really hard and learn.
Instead, go out into the world and start getting to know as many people as possible.
