Rather than spending Monday through Thursday in a two-hour class, students would rather sit in the sun at the beach or go on a vacation with their families.
However, summer classes provide students the much-needed units in a relatively short period of time, helping them to transfer faster to their desired universities.
Just because a student takes summer courses does not mean that the summer is lost.
Summer classes are longer than most of the classes in the fall semester, but the classes are only four days a week and end in late July.
Because there is no class on Fridays, every weekend is a three-day weekend.
Also, depending on which class or the time a student decides to attend, it is possible to have the entire afternoon for leisure after school ends.
Students who take classes over summer receive as many as four units per class. With multiple classes, the units that a student achieves can be more than half the units a full-time student takes in the fall or spring semesters.
Taking a 7 a.m. class and a 10 a.m. class can allow a student to take seven units and still get out of school by 1 p.m.
Not only is the student seven units closer to transferring, he or she still has the entire afternoon for relaxation.
Because summer courses end in late July, there is still a full month until the fall semester begins.
Taking summer classes is like killing two birds with one stone-it allows the student to get units and still have an enjoyable summer.
Working hard over the summer will make the following semesters that much easier.
