Campus Forum: Argelia Munoz, Ecology Club President
When does the Ecology Club meet?
It meets the first and third Thursday of every month, in Art B Room 103.
What does the club believe in?
It’s pretty much about education. Education is power, so you need to know what’s going on.
It’s not really a service club, so each meeting I like to incorporate something new about the environment. Conservation doesn’t mean just going out and planting trees; it starts in your home.
What does the club do?
Right now we are taking time to plan what we are going to be doing in the future and investing time in.
I like to educate people about all the issues.
What are some big issues the club wants to confront?
Recycling is one of the largest ones.We talk about human rights, which (is about) your own health.
People go about their lives and think the things that they are eating and the air that we are breathing is OK, but the truth is that it really is not.
How do students join the club?
Just show up. We’re working on getting a Yahoo club site, too. They could also contact the club adviser, Lucy Alamillo, by e-mail, at [email protected].
How can students help the environment?
Through education. If you learn the facts, you can make your own decision.
You can choose to ignore a problem, or recognize it and not do anything, or you can step up to the plate.
Why did you join the club?
I founded the club, so I had to join.
It’s my passion, and what I want to pursue in life. It’s your environment, and it affects everyone.
How is the club making a difference?
We just barely started, so nothing quite yet, but we are making people aware that things they do affect the environment.
Do you have advice for students to make them more environmentally savvy?
They should try recycling.
People have really slacked off on that.
Throw away trash and just try not to produce a lot of trash.
