Past leadership experience, budgets and favorite superheroes were just some of the questions El Camino College students fielded to Associated Students Organization candidates during a two-day question and answer session.

The candidate Q&A is part of the upcoming ASO elections for the 2026-27 semester. The sessions were split between Tuesday, April 7, in the Schauerman Library Lawn and Wednesday, April 8, in the Student Services Plaza, both taking place from 1 to 2 p.m.

ASO student trustee Charlie Mitchell, 22, said that students thought that last year’s election felt “a little too formal” and that they didn’t know their candidates well. So, candidates and students mingled with their peers and talked over blueberry and coffee cake muffins before the sessions began.

“This time around, we want to make sure that the student body sees them as people and get to know them,” Mitchell said.

Nineteen candidates are running for positions including president, student trustee and senator for various divisions.
