Puffs, a clever and parodic retelling of a familiar wizarding story—from the perspective of misfit students—will premiere at El Camino College’s Campus Theatre at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 16.
Directed by Naomi Buckley and originally scripted by Matt Cox, “Puffs” is a two-act parody of Harry Potter about three unlikely heroes as they navigate life at a magic school that “proves to be very dangerous for children.”
“Even though it’s a comedy, it has a really nice message,“ Richard Jalandoni, 19, who plays Ernie Mac and other characters, said.
Puffs will be playing at the Campus Theatre on May 16, 17, 23, and 24 at 8 p.m. and on May 18 and 25 at 3 p.m.
“We’re reaching out to those people in the back… You don’t have to be the main character to go far in this world,” Jalandoni said. “You can be one of the side characters and still be really awesome and cool.”
General admission tickets are $15, or $10 with a student ID. Tickets can be purchased online, at the ticket office or by calling (310) 329-5345.
