Capitol Advisors Group, LLC partner David Neben gave a legislative and budget update at the El Camino College Board of Trustees meeting Monday, April 28.
During his presentation, Neben reviewed a variety of topics, going over the current political landscape of the U.S., its impact on ECC and the policies that are being worked on to be implemented or rejected by the college.
Neben went over Federal Administration Actions that focus on federal grants for funding at ECC for student visas and immigrants, policies that were introduced to keep up with California’s rapidly changing political and economic landscape.
Assembly Bill 313 is a bill Neben went over that would require the California Student Aid Commission to extend the application deadline by one month for every financial aid program it administers, if the opening of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is delayed.
Workforce expansion was also covered in Neben’s presentation, including fire recovery efforts provided by Los Angeles County and the California Master Plan for Career Education. These actions were introduced as efforts to strengthen California’s workforce and student body.
Neben presented about AB 323, a bill focused on workforce expansion in California.
“This area has a pretty rich focus in workforce development,” Neben said.
