El Camino is hosting its biannual Club Rush event this week, where clubs get the opportunity to attract newer students to join them or to simply attract those with similar interests.

This event allows the participating clubs to inform a wide variety of students of their club’s activities, allowing the students a better opportunity to get engaged in extra curricular activities.

The event sparked a lot of attention from students, ranging from new and old, as they rushed to the event in order to find a club where they found a similar interest.

“Our goal for Club Rush is to find people with similar interests,” Antonio Vasquez, 19, computer science major, said. “In order to be successful, we have to help each other.”

Antonio is a member of the CARE Club, who plans to help single parents because it gives him joy.

Members that stay with their clubs tend to come back, because they find passion or joy in it.

“The clubs are very social and I did not expect people to just walk up and talk to me,” Karina Perez, President of Circle K International, said. “I’ve been with the club for three years now and this club is very special to me.”

The Associated Student Organization (ASO) seeks to give the student body a voice.

“We represent the and are the voice of the student body,” Henry Tran, ASO division council of health services, and Umar Tootla, Senator of Mathematics, said. “It gives them a chance to be heard.”

ASO recently got an approval on renewable water bottles and refillable water fountains, which is planned to be implemented in the future.

“Hopefully this will help reduce waste and costs for students,” Tran said.

Surrounding clubs such as Circle K thought that the other clubs give students something unique.

“I’m not as active with the surround clubs, however it gives the campus a different and lively environment,” Perez said. “It’s also a little competitive because we try to recruit more students.”
