Blood drive begins Monday
One blood donation can save three lives. The Iota Kappa Chi Club will host the fall season donations on Sept. 15 and 16 between noon and 6 p.m. in the Student Activities Center. Appointments are preferred but not required, Iota Kappa Chi President Rosario Martin said.
Donors are compensated with a coupon for a pint of Baskin Robbins ice cream or a T-shirt. But, before considering a donation, there are a few general guidelines to remember.
A person must be 17 years old (16 with hospital consent), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, have an official ID, and any antibiotics must be completed three days prior to donating.
For further guideline details, pick up a flyer at the Student Activities center. Appointments can be made at here.
“By donating blood, you can help sick people get better,” Martin said. “Anyone can pretty much donate and can make a difference.”
This year, the Iota Kappa Chi Club aims to obtain a total of 200 donations. The number of members has increased over the year, allowing them more help and the possibility of achieving higher donations. Last year, they were able to meet their goal and hope that this time will be no different.
“Over time, we have increased. Last year, we hoped for 150 and did 157,” Martin said. “This semester we are shooting for 200.”
