Most artists are encouraged to go mainstream to sell more records.
In Lupe Fiasco’s newest album “Lasers,” he definitely went away from what made some people believe he was one of the most gifted rappers lyrically.
Whether it was his choice or influenced artist developers over at Atlantic, he definitely cools off from his highly popular album, “The Cool.”
Fiasco falls victim of what most rappers commonly are doing in recent album sales by he producing a pop and rap album in order to sell more records.
The album proceeds to be a roller coaster as many of the songs show off Fiasco’s lyrical brilliance along with showcasing typical pop rap productions.
However Fiasco did show us a new side of him as he came forward about chis own his political views.
In his song “Words I Never Said,” Fiasco takes the political path and talks about various issues such as war, and the media.
He discusses his disappointment in President Barack Obama, who decided not to act when the Palestinians were attacked by saying “That’s why I didn’t vote for him, next one either. I’m a part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful.”
The highly anticipated album, falls short of living up to his previous album, but it however does continue to illustrate Fiasco lyrical intelligence that helps him stand out from other hip hop artists.
