With a style that can best be described as a pop rock mix with an electronic vibe, singer and songwriter Natasha Suzuki, 23, has a bright future ahead of her in her quest to take over the music scene.
Suzuki’s versatility and uplifting style has given her the chance to enter a competition to have one of her songs featured in a movie slated to come out next year. The film is a family focused one entitled “Doggie Boogie” and will feature actors and dogs as opposed to an animation style movie.
“This is one of the first songs I recorded with me singing, so that was new for me,” Suzuki said.
Her song is entitled “Breathe (If I could just).” Suzuki submitted the song in September and the contest closed at the end of October, so now the voting will begin.
Right now she is in close competition with one other contestant.
“I have family in other countries who are voting as well,” Suzuki said, showing how the voting has reached an international level, though she emphasizes that locals and their voting are an important component as well.
Singing has been in Suzuki’s life for quite some time, beginning with choirs in elementary school and more recently she has spent time in the studio recording her cd demo.
“I have always used song writing as a form of therapy and journaling,” Suzuki said.
When Suzuki isn’t singing, she’s has been in school working on perfecting her art. She spends time at Fullerton College where she received her associates degree in music and at Berklee College of Music where she earned her bachelors in professional music. This is Suzuki’s first semester on campus and so far has been enjoying her time here.
“I am taking dance classes because dance always seems to go along with singing and performing,” Suzuki said.
Besides branching out into different components of performing, Suzuki is also trying new styles of singing.
“I write and sing some songs alone, and some I do with the band I work with,” Suzuki said.
Suzuki posts her songs online as a way to share them with family and friends and is always recording and uploading new ones.
On her personal Web site (www.natashasuzuki.com) she has three songs, including the one she entered in the competition.
“I love singing and sharing my songs and their stories,” Suzuki said.
