Showcasing EC’s musical talents, the Symphony Orchestra performed with a soloist from the Applied Music Program Saturday in Marsee Auditorium.
Led by director Dane Teter, the orchestra opened the show playing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and then Teter introduced student conductor Silvero Rojas.
Rojas returned from a tour of duty in Iraq and led the orchestra performance of Paul Dukas’ “Fanfare for La Peri.”
Teter hadpromised Rojas he would let him conduct the orchestra when he returned from his tour of duty.
Teter took over after “Fanfare for La Peri” and led the orchestra in the more than 20 minute-performance of Ludwig Van Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No.5 in E- Flat Major” which featured the piano skills of Deoborah Aitken, who serves as the piano instructor at EC.
Applause rang through the auditorium when Teter took the stage following intermission.
“Save it; something better is coming along,” Teter said.
Teter was referring to the next performance, “Der Schneerman Overture” by Enrich Korngold, composer of films such as “The Adventures of Robin Hood.”
The song “Little Black Slave Child” from the opera “Trouble Island” was performed by William Grant Still and it featured EC students Lizbeth Sanchez and Anthony Moreno.
