Hispanic Heritage Month lasts from Monday, Sept. 15, to Wednesday, Oct. 15. Out of 11 events hosted by El Camino College in honor of Hispanic heritage, six are still upcoming.
- The LGBTQIA+ Pride Center and the Social Justice Center will present a Gay Latino LA Documentary in the Social Justice Center, Communications Building Room 204, on Sept. 30 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
- MICASA Center and the FIRST Program will be showing “Blood In Blood Out” from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m Tuesday, Sept. 30 in the Social Justice Center located in Communications Building Room 204.
- The Schauerman Library will host a Hispanic Heritage Month pop up event Thursday, Oct. 2 at the Library Lawn from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
- Puente and the MICASA Center will host “Entre Hermanas,” a discussion on how patriarchy and unrealistic beauty standards harm women, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 in the MICASA Center located in Communications Building Room 302.
- A cartoonist who worked on Disney Pixar’s 2017 film “Coco” and Nickelodeon’s “The Casagrandes” will be featured at a free event in the Social Justice Center on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Lalo Alcaraz, known for creating the “La Cucaracha” comic strip, will speak about his work in a conversational format from 1-2:30 p.m.
- On Oct. 15, MICASA and the Dream Resource Center will host “Self Care Sin Fronteras” in the Dream Resource Center in the Communications Building Room 309 and in the MICASA Conference Room simultaneously, also located on the third floor of Communications Building Room 303.
- How art and storytelling help in overcoming trauma are themes explored in “The Space Within,” a new exhibit by artist Susie Chavez at the Schauerman Library lasting until Oct. 15.
