Celebration is a must around this time of year to honor all mothers for all of the extraordinary things they have done. Students are running out of time and must hurry and plan what they might do for their mothers this Sunday.
“I’ll probably give her flowers, a hug and candy. I’ll eat the candy for her, though, because she’s on this crazy diet,” Benito Barrann, 20, liberal studies major, said.
“We’ll probably watch a chick flick because that’s her favorite thing to do and my dad doesn’t ever want to,” Audra Jacot, 25, art major, said.
While Barrann and Jacot decide to keep their festivities simple, other students choose to commemorate them all day long.
“I requested the whole day off to have a date with my mom. I’m going to buy her roses and take her to the movies, then have dinner,” Johnny Toscano, 21, undecided major, said.
Other students might have something more magical in store for their mothers.
“I might take her to Disneyland,” Josh Glover, 21, business administration major, said.
Jennifer Oh, 21, undecided major, said she believes there is only so much one can do for their mother, especially if they live outside of the country like her mother.
“She lives in Korea, so I’ll probably just give her a call,” Oh said.
Gift giving plays a big part during this holiday.
Mother’s Day is popular to celebrate and has become commercialized so, some mother’s prefer to not receive anything during this day.
“She actually gets mad when I do something for her, she’s not a big gift receiver,” Scarlett Hubbard, 18, undecided major said about her mom.
Unlike Hubbard’s mother, there are other mothers out there who are excitedly expecting creative yet, pricey gifts.
“I’ll be taking her to Las Vegas to see the Celine Dion concert for the weekend,” Medina Justine, 21, radiology major, said.
Students are showing their mothers different ways to ultimately thank them for everything they have done, including all the work put into raising them.
One student in particular is going about a slightly different way of showing their appreciation.
“I’m going to take her to dinner, maybe the Cheesecake Factory and buy her champagne. Then I’ll have the family over at the house all gathered together and play a song that I’ve written for her,” Justin Walker, 23, music major, said.
It is apparent that restaurants both upscale and not so upscale will be filled, such as Café Del Rey for dinner and Denny’s for perhaps breakfast. Since so many restaurants will be full Sunday, some students have decided to cook for their mothers.
“I’m going to cook her dinner, anything she wants, maybe pasta,” Lisa Stacey, 18, psychology major, said.
Due to money being tight for many students, the option for fancy gifts and dinner must be left out.
“All I can afford to do unfortunately, as much as I would love to give her the world, is tell her that I love her along with a big hug,” Israel Sanchez, 20, undecided major, said.
Mother’s Day is the perfect day to appreciate your mom no matter what you decide to do for them from gifts to dinner or just a simple hello, it’s time to celebrate them.
