El Camino’s cross country program is hosting its second annual Dean and Dave Warrior 5K fundraiser run and pancake breakfast.
The run will take place Sunday, May 10, at 8:30 a.m. on the Murdock Stadium track and wrap around campus.
“The run is roughly 3.1 miles. It’s beginner-friendly; people can walk it, but some people run the entire way,” Abigail Francisco, ECC athletic director, said.
The event is open to students, faculty, and community members. Tickets are $25 or $15 for students who provide a student ID.
Current cross country coach Kirsten Green created the event in hopes of elevating the cross country program for travel trips and activities to offset the cost for team members.
The event honors retired track and field and cross country coaches Dean Lofgren and Dave Shannon.
Shannon passed away in August 2021, but is recognized for his 31 years of work at El Camino.
“60 years of the program was coached and directed by these two men. Many athletes have gone on to run at the next level…It’s definitely a testament to coaches that were here for a long period of time,” Green said.
The post-run pancake and sausage breakfast presale is $5. On race day, the price will increase to $8.
Those interested can register and purchase tickets through here or on the day of the race.
