Athletic footwear and apparel company Nike filmed commercials for basketball products in the South Gym from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3.
A model and former athlete participating in the shoot said the production was for Nike’s fall 2025 advertising campaigns.
The adjacent Social Science Building was used for production and “glam,” according to 25Live, the public calendar El Camino College uses for facility rentals.
Maricar Baquir, facility program specialist, wrote in an email response to The Union that the Nike photoshoot was a closed set.
“Please vacate the area for privacy purposes,” Baquir wrote in the email.
The Union contacted Director of Facility Rentals Bridget Delahunt for an interview but did not receive a response before the publication date.
Lot H was also closed to the public in connection with the production, according to a campus advisory email sent to students Thursday, Oct. 2.
“It’s going to be a good rollout, there was good energy in there,” the model, who did not disclose her name but mentioned she worked with most major brands, said.
She said the commercial filming and photoshoots began with children’s products in the morning, followed by men’s products and, lastly, women’s products in the late afternoon.
Any entity or individual renting a campus facility to film must pay $1,000 or more per hour, according to the college’s facility rental rates and fees chart.
However, photoshoots at campus facilities cost $700 or more per hour, according to the chart.
The model said Nike had been filming all week at “random spots” around Los Angeles to shoot four campaigns in total, including footwear products for weightlifting and running.
“[It’s] what you see when you walk in the store,” she said.
