The Concert Band will be performing a variety of music in numerous styles Sunday at 3p.m. in the Marsee Auditorium.
“The band is excited about this upcoming show,” Dane Teter, music professor, said. “They have been practicing all semester long for this.”
There is no audition process to be in the concert band. All students have to do is have experience and register.
Students of all ages are participating in the concert.
“We have some older students as well as younger students. The oldest student we have is 89-years-old,” Teter said.
The program will include a medley of “Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” melodies, show tunes, traditional songs and songs from the ’30s, ’40s and ’60s.
“I think the concert coming up will be great. We are hoping people will attend because it’s always nice to see people still enjoying the arts and we feed off that while performing,” Breeanna Bond, 20, sociology major, said.
The show will also feature 19-year-old clarinet soloist Anibal Seminario.
“I’m excited and nervous at the same time since I’m playing a solo piece,” Seminario said.
There are also a variety of fairly new pieces to the program which include pieces such as “Armenian Dances- Pt. 1”, “Between the Two Rivers”, “Adagio-Tarantella”, “Semper Fidelis” and “American Folk Rhapsody No. 3.”
Also joining him on stage will be guest conductor Amanda Schulz.
There is a lot of good music in our show for every body. The group has been working hard and it will be a good show, Teter said.
“Sometimes it is a struggle because one song is a lot harder then others, but it will pay off in the end,” Teter said.
Teter has done many concerts outside of campus, in El Segundo, Hermosa Beach and has also done some public concerts.
He has also had the concert band perform at Disneyland.
“At the end of the year, we start working on the Disneyland concert which is every February and to get into that, we have to audition. Hopefully, we go in February,” Teter said.
The concert band also performs at every graduation and once every semester towards the end of the year. The next show is scheduled for May.
“We have another one that is in conversation right now,” Teter said.
Teter, who was an assistant director at Chico State, also received a degree majoring in music. He has been teaching music on campus for the past 12 years.
Tickets can be purchased at the Marsee Auditorium between 10a.m-6p.m. from Monday through Friday and cost $10, $6 with ASB sticker.
