In their last soccer game of the season or EC career, the Warriors had one word in their minds to make sure they ended the season on a good note.
The Women’s soccer team ended the season with a 2-2 tie against Mt. SAC and finished the year with an overall record of 6-9-4 and a conference record of 4-4-4.
“We stepped up and played as a team,” sophomore Jennifer Silva said. “It was a battle all-game, I thought we had them in the beginning, but they came back.”
The Warriors came out strong and jumped to an early 2-0 lead, but Mt. SAC came back in the second half and earned the tie.
“Even though it was a tie, it was a huge upset for us and for them,” sophomore Danielle Seibel said.
The women felt that if the season lasted a little longer, they could have had a chance to make the playoffs.
“We improved a lot over our last games. We started to show who we were as a team,” Seibel said.
The Warriors finished the season strong going undefeated in their final four games.
However, some of the sophomores were sad that the season came to an end.
Those players have completed their two seasons at EC, and will not be eligible to come back.
“It’s pretty sad because I played with some of these girls for two years or more and I got used to having them around all the time,” Silva said.
Seibel agreed, but also found it frustrating because the team was starting to come together as a unit.
“It’s frustrating that the season is finished because we were getting better, but I had a great time this year and last,” Seibel said.
Even though the team was doing well toward the end of the season, it missed the playoffs and its coach has an idea why.
“I know better conditioning could have made the team better,” coach John Britton said. “We weren’t as good as last year.”
“Maybe we had better players or better conditioning, so we let ourselves down,” he added.
While the team had conditioning problems throughout the year, Britton was still proud of it.
“There was a very good team spirit. We showed and brought some attitude in all our games,” Britton said. “There was a lot of unity.”
The tie against Mt. SAC was one of two highlights this year for the Warriors, who were blown out by the Mounties 6-0 earlier this year.
“We stepped up and showed Mt. SAC what we can do,” Seibeo said.
The other highlight came against Pasadena City, where the women tied 1-1 after losing to them earlier in the year 4-1.
“I felt we first came out in the Pasadena City game and that game helped us play well for the rest of the year,” Seibel said.
