No: Is there such a thing as a sex addiction?

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, addiction is defined as “the compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal.”
ÿCigarettes are addictive because they are filled with nicotine. Heroin and cocaine are addictive because they are made with artificial chemical substances. Sex is only filled with passion, heat and a sense of security.
ÿSex can easily be mistaken as an addiction because it gets the blood flowing rapidly and releases endorphins and makes people feel good about themselves.
ÿEven if someone could not get his or her mind off of wanting sex, there is a fine line between an addiction and wanting to feel good.
ÿTiger Woods was said to be a sex addict in recent tabloids.
It makes one ponder if one had the money to spend like Woods does, wouldn’t they want to explore every opportunity?
ÿThat kind of money can buy the affection of many men and women.
The definition of addiction states that there are also withdrawal symptoms.
The only possibility of withdrawal from sex could be the feeling that the body needs to release tension.
ÿWithdrawal symptoms of drugs can produce anxiety, sweating, irritability and more.
It hardly seems likely that an act used to produce new life can turn into a negative habit.
ÿThe fact that sex has many harmful possibilities seems like a rational reason for one to be careful with the acts they commit.
ÿSexually transmitted diseases can be overlooked because heroin addicts also risk the same factor.
Pregnancy is also a risk many are not ready to undertake.
ÿUnless a sex fiend is also addicted to taking care of children, sex hardly seems like an addiction.
ÿStudents in grade school are educated about the negative effects of drugs.
They are taught that users can be addicted after a one-time experience and to stay away.
ÿYoung children have minds that can be molded and if intercourse were as addictive as it is rumored to be, children would be taught to stay away from sex.
ÿUntil children are taught about the dangerous addictiveness of sexual intercourse in the D.A.R.E program at school, sex is just an act done for pleasure and for the making of children.
