What is the psychology club?
The past semester what we have done is we’ve gone to the scientology museum to see the arguments they’ve presented against psychiatry. We have had two guest speakers come into our club, one was a school psychologist from a middle school and we also had a psychology counselor from here on campus come. We have watched a lot of videos that are focused on things our club has been focused on from down syndrome or autism. We have also been involved with an organization called Best Buddies, which deals with children with autism.

Why is the psychology club important to El Camino?
It is one of the most popular majors here and I think by having a club that focuses around that field of interest we drawn a large crowd. Also, you get so many people from different walks of life and they can give their point of view and we can focus in on different areas of psychiatry.

How can students become involved with the psychology club?
You can sign up via club rush, we also have posters up around campus. We meet every first and third Tuesday of the month in ArtB 334.

Are there any student requirements to be part of the club?
No, as of now there is not, just whoever is interested in psychology. You don’t even have to be a psychology major. If you want to see what we have to offer or if you’re not sure what major you want to be, this is a great way to get interested.

What are some of the goals you have for the club?
This semester we are focusing more on volunteering. One example is best buddies and we want to go out from campus and work with children with down syndrome. Also, working with children who come from abused and neglected homes possibly with learning disabilities. Therefore this semester our main goal is going to be giving actual aid outside of campus to these specific organizations. We also may be starting an honors subgroup which would be for honors students majoring in psychology.

What are your personal goals for the club as president?
Mainly, to generate more interest. We have a lot of really dedicated people within the club and I just want people to discover that there is a really good core group. I want to make people come to like this field and understand it better.

Are there any upcoming events?
We are actually thinking of going to the Museum of Tolerance. We are also going to have a school psychologist from El Camino come in and speak.

Is there anything you want to say about the club in general?
It is a really great place to be, you can meet a lot of nice people and everyone is really welcoming. So if you are looking for friends or trying to figure out what you want to do in your life this is a really great place to start.

How did you become involved in psychology?
Through club rush, I was walking by my first semester here and automatically signed up.

What is your major and what career do you want to pursue?
I am a psychology major and I think I want to go into psychiatry. This is my last semester and I want to attend either Berkeley, USC or UCLA.

What positions have you held in the club?
This is my second semester as president and before that I was vice-president for the previous two semesters.
