NO: It is unethical to use fertility drugs

Fertility drugs are being abused by families desperate to conceive children. The demand for fertility drugs from aging, childless couples is high.

Alternative methods can be used to accommodate these families. In-vitro fertilization is much more accurate than fertility drugs. It may be the best way to avoid the common problem of multiple embryos associated with the use of fertility drugs. In-vitro fertilization is an alternative for a family who chooses to keep the genetic make-up of both parents.

Fertility drugs have had the tendency to fertilize multiple eggs. Parents who are looking to have one child are sometimes surprised to find out there are five or six. Certain issues come into play in procedures involving fertility drugs.Sometimes, a multi-fetal reduction is performed by doctors because of the health of an embryo. The problem that arises frequently is that families object to this form of abortion because of emotional attachment to the embryos or religious reasons.

The financial burden of fertility drugs weighs on families as well. Many prospective parents must pay for fertility drugs because their medical insurance refuses to cover the expenses.

There are alternatives to fertility drugs; adoption is something that should be considered by families who are unable to have their own children. However, many people would argue that adopted children don’t share the same genetic make- up of their parents, but being a parent is different then having a baby. Actually having a baby that is healthy is what really matters.

Some of the side effects of fertility drugs are blurred vision, hot flashes, and nausea. All of which are somewhat mild symptoms but still not pleasant to experience.

The health risks of babies that are conceived in multiples are also a concern. Many children are born pre-mature or with other developmental problems.

The media’s portrayal of fertility drugs and huge families persuades people’s views. The media makes it look fashionable to have this many babies . The cost of these babies is going to be more than the average person can afford.

People should not have more kids than they can afford to support. It is going to cost the tax payers of this country tons of money.

The alternatives to fertility drugs can accommodate families without putting the burden on society.
