College instructors’ salaries not equal to the value in society

Becoming a college instructor may not appeal to many because of all the fashions, nice cars and costly outings one must think are required to be a millionaire in order to survive in Los Angeles.

This might be partly true since living in Los Angeles can be quite expensive and one must see if one’s career choice can earn enough money to survive.

The average annual salary for a full-time community college instructor is $52, 819 and, considering the instructor’s impact on society, it should be more.

What an instructor does benefits the students, the community and, in return, the world.

Instructors help society function and help others to contribute to the betterment of everyone; this is hardly a small job considering these factors.

A community college instructor prepares students to transfer to a university where the students may continue their education.

They also act as a mentor who are beneficial to students who need all the help and support they can get.

This is not a small job because it involves leading the students who will be the leaders for the coming generations.

They will be the next doctors, lawyers, business leaders or politicians, and this is not anything that should be taken lightly.

There are numerous jobs that are overpaid, like those held by actors and athletes, and these jobs are hardly beneficial to anyone.

Although not all actors are paid ridiculous amounts of money, many like Tom Cruise, who is paid about $20 million per picture, are.

Acting and entertainment are good things, but hardly worth millions of dollars; overpaying public figures, like actors and athletes, sends the wrong message about what society values.

Also, living in Los Angeles can be expensive and the costs of living is rising.

According to losangelesrealestateinsider.com, the cost of Los Angeles homes has risen; in 2004 the median cost of a house was $480,000, but owning a home is just one component of living and surviving.

There is also the cost of owning an automobile, buying food, clothing, paying bills and many other things to consider as well.

Instructors are a necessary need for society and deserve more than what they get.

While it is debatable as to who should earn more money than who, and whether or not they are worth that amount, as far as importance to society it seems pretty clear that instructors deserve more.

By giving instructors a bigger salary, it will show that they are valued and will show the rest of the world that being an instructor is a valuable job.
