Fraudulent trails: Mapping college application, enrollment and financial aid scams

El Camino College lost $110,298 in financial aid last academic year to scammers who pretended to be students.

While the amount is significant, college officials continue to downplay the money El Camino lost compared to other community colleges that also dealt with fraud.

“Some schools reported that they lost that much money in a week,” Chau Dao, El Camino financial aid director, said.
