Police Beat March 26 – March 31

March 26, 8:49 a.m. An unknown person attempted to pry open the bill receiver on a vending machine near the North Gym. Officers also discovered that three other vending machines on campus had the same damage. When security camera video was reviewed, two men were seen attempting to pry open the machines around 1 a.m.

March 27, 2:37 a.m. Officers stopped two men riding bicycles in the inner campus. Officers detained both of the men since they recognized one from security video from the previous night, where he was seen trying to break into vending machines. When officers were searching his backpack, a crowbar was found inside it. One of the men admitted to the vandalisms from the other night, and the other man admitted to being present but not involved in the act. Officers arrested one man for possession of burglary tools, vandalism, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and providing false identification to a police officer. The second man was arrested for a DUI warrant from Inglewood police.

March 28, 10:37 a.m. A woman who was yelling at staff members in the Administration Building was taken to an area hospital for a 72-hour psychological evaluation after officers determined she was a danger to others and herself. The woman, who is a student, was also in the Student Services building earlier causing the same disturbance.

March 28, 10:53 a.m. A male student who went to the Health Center complaining of an irregular heartbeat was transported by paramedics to an area hospital.

March 29, 6:10 p.m. A man who made an illegal U-turn in the 3400 block of Manhattan Beach Boulevard was stopped by an officer. The driver, who is not a student, had a suspended license and was also in possession of marijuana. The man was cited and the officer had him leave the vehicle at the scene.

March 29, 10:47 p.m. An officer stopped a vehicle in the 16400 block of Crenshaw Boulevard for running a red light. The driver did not have a driver’s license. The officer impounded the man’s vehicle and cited him.

March 30, 11:30 a.m. Officers responded to the police lobby for a man who claimed he was assaulted off campus. The man, who is not a student, told officers that the government had planted drugs inside of him. The man also claimed to be a CIA agent and started to take his clothes off in the lobby. Officers transported him to an area hospital for a 72-hour psychological evaluation.

March 30, 5:20 p.m. A student with a $35,000 DUI warrant from South Gate police was pulled over in the 3200 block of Manhattan Beach Boulevard. The officer issued the student a citation for the warrant.

March 31, 10:34 a.m. A staff member from one of the food locations on campus went to the police station to report that $800 was stolen from one of the locations. The staff member told an officer that she thinks one of the employees took the money because of his financial status. Officers interviewed the suspected employee and the employee admitted to taking the money.

March 31, 5:21 p.m. An officer responded to the North PE building for a medical aid call for a football player who dislocated his shoulder during a practice. Paramedics transported the student to an area hospital.
