Models and clothing designs dazzle during fashion show

Strutting down the runway with every bit of confidence, each model showed a bit of attitude with each step they took for every piece of clothing they wore.

The 33rd Annual Fashion Show “Runaway Runway” was hosted at the Marsee Auditorium on Friday night. The show was organized in order to showcase the work of student designers from EC and not from the college.

Before walking in the Auditorium there was a chance for the audience to also win something at the end of the show. Each audience member could enter a raffle to win a prize. There were many prizes with like a 2 hour massage,Starbucks coffee giveaway and other tickets. The winners were announced at the end of the fashion show.

“The money goes to the fashion club for them to buy accessories and equipment for the fashion students,” fashion professor Priscy Ratcliff said.

Music was provided by DJ DaCapo throughout the fashion show according to the program handout. Each designer got a different genre or style of music to suit their collection.

The show started off with children, ages 6-12, who had done some sowing and are currently taking sowing classes at Sew Creative Cafe according to the program.

High school students were also given a chance to show off their designs. Junior and senior high school students from Torrance and West High were had their clothes strut by models. The high school students were competing for a $100 scholarship.

Each designer had different collections which represented their own personal style and how they perceive fashion. According to the program, the designers and their collection were:

  • Uchenci Emenogu with “Megongu Designs”
  • Kenia Mendoza with “Frida’s Rose”
  • Chilufya Mulenga with “Fettish”
  • Pricila Reyes with “Whimsical Desire”
  • Yordanos Tadesse with “XoxoEthiopian”
  • and Alexa Tokich with “Faded”

Before each model strutted the runway each designer was given the opportunity to introduce themselves and tell the audience more about their collections in a short introduction video.

Each model showed confidence in the way they walked, since that was what the judges for the model calls were looking for.

At the end of the fashion show awards were given to the best designers of the night. The winner for best collection was awarded to Yordanos Tadesse who also won best of the show, with her collection “XoxoEthiopian”.

Outside the Marsee Auditiorum when the fashion show was over people were excited and still talking about their favorite part of the show.

“My favorite part of the show was the colors used for each design,” Angelo Malvar, 21, undecided, said.

Many students were talking about the show in general being great.

“I thought the show was fantastic and the designs were gorgeous,” Jovielle Marantan, 20, computer science major, said.
