Campus readies for accreditation team visit

The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges, will visit EC next week, from Oct. 6-9, Jeanie Nishime, vice president of student and community advancement, said.

In November 2013, the college was put on warning by the accreditation team. Action to remove the warning took place months later after EC submitted a follow-up in January 2014, according to the EC website.

This is a regularly scheduled visit, Elise Geraghty, associate dean of humanities, said.

“Every college has an accreditation visit every six years and in preparation for that visit, we put together a self-evaluation report and in this report, we have to address each of the accreditation standards,” Nishime said.

The accreditation team will be a group consisting of 14 people and they will evaluate EC and the Compton Center, Nishime added.

The comission will be focusing on all divisions and programs, Geraghty said. “They are looking at the institution overall.”
