Art lovers get ready — the El Camino Art Gallery will host the fall semester’s first Maker’s Fair on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This will be the first time the Art Gallery has opened a Maker’s Fair in the fall.
The fair has expanded, previously held annually in the spring semester, due to the increased popularity.
“For a lot of artists, they have a really hard time selling their work and selling themselves and this is a way for them to get their feet wet in learning how to deal with the public,” Carrie Lockwood, art gallery associate, said.
The event will be held at the Art Complex Plaza, where vendors will display handmade jewelry, photographs, paintings, and other creations from the art community.
With 43 vendors having already signed up, on par with previous years, the event is expected to be a large success.
The fair’s goal is to support the ECC students and introduce them to selling and promoting their own work.
“It’d be amazing for it to be able to grow into an event where we get more public and more eyes on here to see and not to have the public come think of them as student artists, they’re just artists.” Eric Holman, assistant professor in digital art, said.
Vendors who wish to participate in the event will not have to pay a commission to the event, which will provide resources like tables and chairs for the sellers.
“I think it’s a great way for people to start getting their art out there,” Kaden Devine Walsh, 19-year-old psychology major and artist, said. “Having it be a school event allows for less worry of failure.”
Submissions to enter artwork are now open and will close on Nov. 10. To sign up and submit your work, click here.
