Student Services Center continues to offer transfer and counseling help

Update, Feb. 18 2:05 p.m.Minor edits have been made to this story.

The Student Services Center (SSC) is located on the northwest side of campus close to the Communications Building and Student Activities Center. The center serves as a place to help students with counseling, admissions and placement testing.

One quick service the centers offers is express counseling.

“(The purpose of the express counseling is) to answer students’ fast questions – so no educational plans and no kind of graduation checks – but to answer 10 minute questions or less,” Hsin-Neh Rogers, adjunct counselor, said.

The hours for the express counseling are from Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Another service that students can get in the SSC is help offered by the Transfer Center, also located in the counseling office.

“Our transfer center assist students when they are ready to apply to universities,” Rene Lozano, Transfer Center Coordinator, said.

Lozano added that the Transfer Center helps students file application and it also hosts tours to universities.

The Transfer Center hours are Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and it’s closed Fridays, Lozano said.

Some students like Sandy Handerson, 22, sociology major, comes to the SSC and uses most of the programs, but the one she uses most is the Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS) program.

The EOPS program helps low income students and offers services like printers, computers, and tutors. The program has its own counselors to advise the students, Anderson said.
