Every student knows the importance the web is to student life. For every person who uses Facebook, there is another person who uses Twitter.
EC recently caught hold of the trends in social networking and has revamped its website design. The result is a more interactive experience for students and faculty.
“We did a complete redesign. Every three years we like to redevelop our website,” Ann Garten, director of community relations, said.
The website has made significant changes to its interface, making it more interactive with more updated information.
Among some of the changes are the homepage is able to offer more information on upcoming events and activities on campus.
The idea is to have more information directly on the website, Garten said.
“The website is easier to view and students know where to go for information, its all on the front page,” Michelle Pham, 21, nursing major.
Another new feature that is being offered is a better Frequently Asked Questions area. Garten adds that the point is that students now have a place they can go to for asking questions and it makes it easier on them. EC also has a Facebook page and a Twitter page that helps better promote the site, Garten said.
In keeping with the interactive theme, every department is in charge of updating its own section of the web so each section uploads its own videos to heighten the interactive experience.
Constant updates on the website is the main priority.
“The number one thing students say is that if the website is not updated its of no value to me. A lot of students follow our Facebook page so its important we meet deadlines and we try to communicate with students following us on Twitter as well as putting up the information the main page,” Garten said.
The new development of the page came about as it was time for EC to revamp the website, so the Web Task Force brought in samples to collaborate on reformatting and making it more user friendly.
This group developed the template and used different focus groups to access what changes were needed for the website, Garten said.
