Seemingly taken right out of the mind of ’80s teen filmmaker John Hughes, Will Gluck’s “Easy A” delivers, laughs, heart and most importantly, a fresh look on teen high school comedies.
Emma Stone, stars along an ensemble cast featuring Amanda Bynes, Stanley Tucci, Thomas Haden Church and “Gossip Girl” leading man Penn Badgley. This is also Director Will Gluck’s second feature film. The first being, 2009’s, “Fired Up.”
“Easy A” is the story of how Olive Penderghast’s (Emma Stone) life is turned upside down by a single lie.
What’s great about “Easy A” is it takes you back to that place that some of us look back at now and laugh at. It’s a trip to the days of high school. It might feel like yesterday or years ago since stepping foot into a high school, but the characters portrayed are all too familiar.
Characters such as the promiscuous friend, the ditsy blonde and the cool English teacher are all recognized in the film. This is a film that understands our text-crazed, tech-savvy, generation.
One thing that may shy men away from this film is pre judgment of calling it a chick flick. It may deal with some feminine issues, but the comedy gives the film a good balance. Nonetheless, “Easy A” is a great choice for a date movie.
Comedies are rare right now, so if you’re looking for a night at the movies, this is one of your only choices, luckily for you, it’s a good one.
