Stars from popular films and television shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Freaks and Geeks” and “Sin City” will share the Campus Theatre stage for the El Camino College Foundation’s benefit event titled “The Road Ahead.”
Partnering with WordTheatre, a night of storytelling centered on education and the college’s campus will be interpreted through dozens of celebrities beginning at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25, foundation board directors, David and Rachael Kartsonis, said.
“We want people to come out and see this, but most of all, we want students to be able to be there. It would be amazing to see the place packed with students,” Rachael said.
Comedic writer and actor Bruce Vilanch, who was recently seen on the Emmy’s, will be hosting with narration by voice over actor, Dave Fennoy, Rachael said.
Actors such as Justin Chambers from the television series “Grey’s Anatomy,” Linda Cardellini from the TV series “Freaks and Geeks” and Carla Gugino from films such as “Sin City” are just a few of the actors that are scheduled to perform.
Although tickets are $150 each, students with a valid student ID may visit the Foundation Office located in the Administration Building Room 117 and pay $35 to be wait listed for the event. Instructors and staff members may purchase tickets for $75 each with a limit of two tickets per person.
The show is scheduled for the Campus Theatre and those on the wait list will then have guaranteed admission and will be notified by phone on Monday, David said.
“The more money we make at EC, the more scholarships will come to our students,” David said.
Celebrating the power of education by creating new paths for people from all walks of life, as stated on WordTheatre’s website, proceeds from the event will contribute to the Osher Initiative.
The Osher Initiative is “the single largest gift to a community college system in the nation and one of the largest gifts ever made to higher education,” the California Community College’s Chancellor’s Office official website said.
The initiative challenges Calif. Community colleges to fund raise $50 million, which will be matched through the initiative.
“Not only are we raising money for EC, but we’re building more awareness for people who normally wouldn’t have known about the Osher initiative. We’re passionate about it and think scholarships are very important,” Rachael said.
