Barack Obama did not deserve to win the Noble Peace Prize because he has not held office long enough. He just got sworn in and he has not been the president long enough to win such an award.
In fact, he has not made any big changes since he’s been president. The cash for clunkers program was a good start. It got old cars off the streets and then it gave people brand new cars. But what about the bigger concerns that he failed to address?
The economy is falling apart. People are out of work and in need of jobs. We have those who are single parents or full-time students struggling. Then there is tuition that is rising and students don’t have enough to continue their education, especially with the budget cuts and financial aid checks aren’t being given to those who qualify.
People in America need more than just a brand new car. Americans need health care, education and stable jobs to pay for things such as new cars. The cash for clunkers program had more cons than pros. Sure people could trade in their clunkers and get new cars, but a lot of peple are out of jobs.
The idea sounded so great that those who didn’t have a job couldn’t pass up the offer and just put themselves up for more debt than ever. The government only gave about $4,500 for the clunker toward a brand new car which costs about $16,000 to $36,000. How are people paying for that?
While the notion was rejected that Obama, “had been recognized prematurely for his efforts and said the committee wanted to promote the president just as it had Mikhail Gorbachev in 1990 for his efforts to open up the Soviet Union,” according to CNN.com.
Hospital worker Itya Silverio, 33, of Brooklyn, said: “What did he do that was so great? He hasn’t even finished office yet,” according to Reuters.
Mahatma Gandhi, who is known across the world, influenced many people and is the role model for others for his peaceful work. Even he did not get a Noble Peace Prize. How can Obama receive a Noble Peace Prize within nine months of being in office without doing much?
Obama said it himself on how he felt that he didn’t deserve the Noble Peace Prize. Or shall I say in his words, “to be in the company” of past peace prize winners. This award is more like a motivation for him to do better and be great, not a recognition of what he has done.
