Huge win comes for women's basketball team, men get another loss despite late rally

The women’s basketball team continued its conference dominance with another win against Compton on Friday.

The home team took a 12-0 lead in the opening five minutes that set the pace for the rest of the game which ended 69-36. The Warriors went into the half leading 33-11. Compton had 24 turnovers to EC’s 17 and the Warriors out rebounded the visitors 47-37.

Compton’s introduction of sophomore guard Tenise Harper sparked life into the visitors’ offense but her 15 points and three steals could not help the Tartars mount a comeback.

Sophomore forward Shontalene Trudeau led the Warriors in scoring with 19 points and eight rebounds.

The men’s basketball team lost to Compton despite a late rally on Friday making it its third loss in a row. The visitor’s defense helped spark a lead despite an early setback and the Tartars went into the half leading 34-26.

A second half 21-3 run from the Warriors pushed them to within a point of equalizing the score but Compton held on just enough to clinch a 72-66 win.

Freshman forward Malik Wildermuth led EC with 17 points and nine rebounds.

The women’s team remains first in the conference standings and the men’s team remain fourth.

The women’s and men’s basketball teams travel to play L.A. Harbor on Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
