Women’s basketball team wins fourth in a row

The women’s basketball team is the last undefeated team left standing in conference play after a win against Cerritos on Wednesday.

EC went on a 13-2 run in the opening minutes and led by as many as 19 in the second half. The visitors poor field-goal percentage contributed to their 67-57 defeat. Cerritos made only two 3-pointers from eight attempts compared to EC’s eight from 11 in the first half.

Sophomore guard Nisja Bass had another performance to remember contributing 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Sydney Chase made five of her seven 3-point attempts and led in scoring with 17 points.

Freshman guard Tyler Quinn played only 12 minutes before going off injured in the second half.

EC leads the pack in the South Coast Conference with 10 games remaining in the regular season. The last and only time they’ve won the conference title was in 2005 when they shared it with Cerritos.

The Warriors will continue conference play against Compton on Jan. 16 at 5 p.m.
